SUSTAINABILITY
BOSKEMPER is committed to making cherished pieces that sustain a long lifetime in a women’s wardrobe. We firmly believe in our responsibility to minimise our impact on the planet & strive towards promoting sustainability. To achieve this, we are dedicated to constantly innovating, evolving & adopting new sustainable practices in every aspect of our business. By remaining dynamic & constantly evolving, we endeavour to reduce our impact & foster a healthier, more sustainable future. Our proudest commitment to sustainability is our passion for enduring design. We design with the intention that you will hand pieces down to loved ones & friends & that each piece has the versatility & ability to be worn year-round. No compromises.
FABRICATIONS
We carefully select & make a conscious effort to use recycled fibres & fabrics. We are vegan as we don’t use leather, silks or anything with animal products. We also include a selection of recycled fabrications in every collection & replacing core fabrics with recycled options as we move forward in this direction.
Vegan Leather
Our luxurious PU leather is 100% vegan (not all faux leather is vegan) & not only feels oh so soft, but also (unlike leather) our PU doesn’t dry out over time. All our fabrications are kind to our furry friends, including our leather.
TEXTILE PRINTING
All BOSKEMPER prints are created in house at BOS HQ in Melbourne, then digitally printed on our selected fabrications. The benefits of digitality printing include: no minimum order quantities, flexibility with colours/complexity & cost-effectiveness due to no setup costs, therefore reducing the labour required to produce each print.
Recycled Polyester
Recycled polyester, often called rPet, is made from recycled plastic bottles. It is a great way to divert plastic from our landfills. The production of recycled polyester requires far fewer resources than that of new fibres & generates fewer CO2 emissions. There are also technical benefits that are unable to be met in other fibres, this means the pieces can be worn more frequently & last longer in our BOS wardrobes.
LOW WASTE
Overproduction in fashion is one of the world’s biggest environmental threats. To counter this issue, we have developed a close relation to our supplier, & adopted a bespoke arrangement which allows us to have no minimum quantities on orders. This allows us to produce small runs of inventory instead of mass bulk. This is to reduce waste & to ensure that our customers are repping unique styles.
We recently introduced ON-DEMAND SHOPPING, you can read more about that HERE. It is a unique way of buying clothes – new collection items & sold out sizes are only produced after you place an order. This means the clothing is specifically made for you & will be worn! It is great way to reduce waste within the fashion industry.
WORN FOR GOOD
We have teamed up with the wonderful women at Worn For Good to donate BOSKEMPER pieces. This is to ensure all our pieces & even samples get a happy home & therefore not contributing to waste & landfill, as well as donating to some incredible charities.
Worn for Good is a social enterprise that gives back 100% of profits to charity, it is their vision to encourage people to buy smart, considered pieces that they will love for longer. Since their inception they have raised $45,000 for charity & kept 1,021 kg of clothing in circulation. Read more about them here.
PACKAGING
We will be introducing our new line of sustainable packaging solutions in October, 2023.
Our Kraft Mailers are thick, durable & are made from 100% recycled paper, which is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. The best thing about using Kraft Mailers is that they can be thrown into your home recycling bin ~ no more questioning what bin it belongs in, it is easy as that. Alternatively, they are also 100% home-compost friendly. The mailers also come with 2 adhesive strips so customers can use them again.
Our 100% recycled plastic dust bags will be equipped with a convenient drawstring closure. These dust bags are designed to be reusable, making them versatile for various purposes beyond just packaging fashion items. By opting for recycled plastic, we aim to minimise the demand for new plastic production and encourage the recycling of existing plastic materials.
At our core, we believe in the principles of "reduce, reuse, and recycle." While we acknowledge that eliminating plastic entirely may not be feasible in some cases, we strive to make a conscious effort to minimise its environmental impact and maximise its reuse.
